'Teeth for Life' is a primary goal we have at Park Street Dental. Regular dental check-ups and cleans is central to this goal. With regular dental examinations, problems such as tooth decay and gum disease can be diagnosed early. Early diagnosis can result in the avoidance of toothache and abscesses, and therefore avoiding complex dental treatments.
At your dental hygiene appointment you will receive advice on home oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing techniques, diet, and possible use of mouthwashes or creams.
Periodontal (gum) disease can progress unnoticed, because in most cases pain is not a symptom. Some people will notice red, inflamed, or bleeding gums. Others will notice receding gums, persistent bad breath (halitosis) or bad taste, loose teeth, or teeth that have moved causing gaps. Advanced periodontal disease can lead to the loss of the gum and bone that surrounds the teeth. Further advancement will ultimately lead to the loss of teeth. Once a certain amount of bone is lost, very little can be done to save the tooth. Therefore early diagnosis is important.
With regular dental appointments, and a focus on healthy diet and lifestyle, common dental diseases can be alleviated or stopped. The result being, a mouth that looks and feels healthier.
